I have decided not to renew my contract to host my radio show: The Kitchen Table Entrepreneur on Voiceamerica.com.
The reason; Mother Crawford told me not to.
Mother Crawford was the wife of a Detroit minister and an evangelist in her own right. One of the many pearls of wisdom she shared was "Do one good thing." This saying was Mother Crawford's response regarding the 80/20 rule as it's applied to churches; where a few people belong to multiple ministries. What Mother Crawford always wanted to know was what was getting done out of all that busyness. Usually it was just one thing.
In today's world, everything is about doing anything except just one thing. Take the once mundane activity of watching television. Now it's an exercise of mental dexterity as one watches a screen divide and sub-divide embryo like, into a space for the anchor person, the stock market ticker, politics, sports, weather and what Tiffany has to say about it all on Twitter. And let's not talk about driving. With the talking, eating, shaving and movie watching; the goal of arriving to a destination in one piece isn't enough.
I don't know whether multi-tasking is an admission of boredom or a lack of commitment. But what Mother Crawford always wanted you to know for yourself was what is the one good thing that you do or are in the process of doing that really sums up the work you were called to do? What is the one accomplishment that you accomplished because even when you were bored and/or frustrated you stayed with it and completed it because you believed in it? What is your level of commitment to that you say is important to you?
After some self examination of late; I have found myself extremely busy, but not so productive. And with that admission, I have decided not to renew my contract to broadcast my radio show - The Kitchen Table Entrepreneur on Voiceamerica.com.
The one good thing I want to do now is publish and market my book that I have been working on for two years. I want this book to sell and I want it to sell very well. However, to me, the selling will not be my most important success; the fact that I've completed it will.
I hope to get back to the Kitchen Table Entrepreneur at a later date in another format primarily a show on You Tube. Doing the show has been a wonderful experience. It took my out of a comfortable zone. I've met so many smart and gifted people, I feel privileged. The show has given me confidence and helped my grow.
But when all is said and done; I want it said that I have done the one good thing that' 's been placed in my heart at this time; publishing and marketing my book.
Thank you one and all.
